Hottest March and hottest Jan-Feb-March on record: “To talk about global cooling at the end of the hottest decade the planet has experienced in many thousands of years is ridiculous”

Climate Progress calls it (thanks to Phil M):

It was the hottest March in both satellite records (UAH and RSS), and tied for the hottest March on record in the NASA dataset.  It was the hottest (or tied for hottest) January through March in all three records.

The record temperatures we’re seeing now are especially impressive because we’ve been in “the deepest solar minimum in nearly a century.” It now appears to be over. It’s just hard to stop the march of anthropogenic global warming, well, other than by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, that is.

NASA’s prediction from last month is standing up:  “It is nearly certain that a new record 12-month global temperature will be set in 2010.″ Actually, NASA made that prediction back in January 2009:

Given our expectation of the next El Niño beginning in 2009 or 2010, it still seems likely that a new global temperature record will be set within the next 1-2 years, despite the moderate negative effect of the reduced solar irradiance.”

Of course, there never was any global cooling — see Must-read AP story: Statisticians reject global cooling; Caldeira — “To talk about global cooling at the end of the hottest decade the planet has experienced in many thousands of years is ridiculous.” Indeed, the overwhelming  majority of the warming went right where scientists had predicted — into the oceans (see “How we know global warming is happening”):

  1. Another bit of gold for the deniers, one of their charlatans Tim Ball is owned when he takes his carnival side show to a young conservatives club.

Well done to the conservative climate science students who couldnt stomach the usual lies that travelling side show freaks like Ball regurgitates at each event.

People like Ball, Carter, Lomborg & Monckton play on the fact that they are comfortable on stage in front of hundreds of people & take comfort in the fact that most people prefer death than public speaking, so are unlikely to confront them in such a public forum.

They are trying to get the audio posted, but here is an excerpt, ahah:

    Student: (unintelligible)

Ball: “Yes, but they don’t look at the natural climate variability.”

Student sotto voce “not true, we look at natural variation”

Ball, offering a new slide: “This is the definition produced by the United Nations Environment Program which was then adopted by the IPCC. This is the definition of what they’re directed to look at. They’re directed to only look at climate change that is due to human activity.”

Student: “What about that whole second half (of the definition printed on the slide): ‘in addition to natural climate variability.’”

Ball: “Yeah, but they don’t do that.”

Student: “But it just says to do it.”

Ball: “You look at the list of forcings they have; it’s only those forcings caused by human activity.”

Student: “You’re saying that volcanoes are caused by humans?”

Ball: “Well exactly. The volcanoes is one and look at the thing I showed you with Milankovich.”

Student: “Yeah, but the IPCC accounts for volcanic activity AND Milankovich cycles.”

Ball: “They identify them, but they do not consider them in their models ….”

    Student: “They certainly do ….”

    Ball: “No then don’t ….”

Student: “Yes they do: I run models … ((interrupted)”

As they say in the gaming world Ball….pwned.

  2. Wow, its been a few days now since this article was first released “Hottest Jan-Feb-March on record” & still WUWT & Bolta have put it in the 10 foot pole department.

I guess they assumed that one snow storm in DC in December would have wiped out the rest of the globes upward trend.

What you can garauntee to see on those blogs is…. “what about that CRU & IPCC eh? What a whitewash” & “how best to lick wounds”.

  3. A mate has informed me that WUWT has indeed published something on the hottest Jan-Feb-March on record.

    http://wattsupwiththat.com/?s=uah

    Just clearing that up.

On another note. I wonder how much the iceland volcano will end up helping to slow those rise in temps in coming months?

  4. Gradually rising temperatures (although with ups and downs along the way) and the last monthly records are the hottest, is that news?

Whatever the cause to shamelessly link it to AGW as follows.

“It’s just hard to stop the march of anthropogenic global warming, well, other than by reducing greenhouse gas emissions”

Increasing temperatures is not proof of cause, it is proof that something has caused warming. More importantly to deduce that from records that only go back 30 years is just opportunistic.

And it is this “science is settled” insistence that CO2 is rising, temperatures are rising, therefore CO2 is the cause of so much anguish from both sides of the debate
